"nach dem Film" means on the one hand "after the movie": coming out of the cinema, on the way home or in the bar, conversations begin which take you in new directions.
"nach dem Film" could also mean "after film", in that the cinema has become historical, like modernity itself.
"nach dem Film" also plays on the reverberations of a film after-the-fact, "post-filmic": transtextuality, transvisualities, transgenderedness, techniques of citation, pastiche, or the remake.
"nach dem Film" could also signify a kind of relation, something that takes "after the movie".
These meanings overlay one another in "nach dem film". Out of the past, out of memory, out of the imaginary, film is thus considered here to be a pivot point, which continues to serve as a coordinate for the present, its new media, and its new discourses.

The readers are welcome to contribute to debate by submitting commentaries, statements, counter-positions, etc.; these will be collected and edited by the editors.

nach dem Film deals with the latter-day state of film – originally a photographic medium – and researches the changes in film and cinematography in the face of new information and communication technologies. nach dem Film engages in researching a ”cross section”, including film studies, art history, gender studies, visual communication, philosophy, social sciences, and computer sciences. This research takes place via the Internet in the form of colloquiums, involving scholars from the above named disciplines.
